Programme Description

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to begin a career in the Hospitality and Tourism sector as a Local Guide. It equips learners with the competencies to conduct short, guided tourist experiences in a specific locality or at a main attraction, with a specialist focus on cultural, historical, environmental, or community-based topics of interest. Learners will gain practical experience in guiding, customer service, ethical responsibilities, communication, and safety. The programme also introduces learners to the broader tourism industry, enabling them to pursue further training toward becoming a National Guide in Namibia..

 

Qualification Requirements

This qualification will be awarded to students credited with a minimum of 87credits, and who have met the requirements of the programme.

Programme Description

This qualification equips learners with the skills and knowledge required to work as a Transfer Driver in the Hospitality and Tourism industry. Learners will develop the competencies needed to safely transport tourists between destinations and interact professionally with them en route. The programme covers core skills such as customer care, occupational health and safety, basic calculations, communication, and ethical conduct. Elective unit standards allow learners to gain knowledge in specific areas of Namibian culture, history, and geography, enhancing the tourist’s experience during transfers.

Programme Description

This qualification is designed for individuals starting a career in the Hospitality and Tourism sector, specifically those aiming to become National Tourist Guides in Namibia. As an entry-level certificate, it equips learners with the foundational skills needed to assist a qualified National Guide during extended, multi-day tours. Learners will develop practical competencies in customer care, cultural knowledge, environmental sustainability, vehicle operation, and tourist engagement. The qualification also includes two elective sets that enable specialization in rural and urban community tourism, the natural environment, or astronomy. This programme serves as a direct pathway to the National Vocational Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism (Level 4).

 

Qualification Requirements

 Students who have completed at least two unit standards from Elective Set A (8–11 credits) and at least two unit standards from Elective Set B (30 credits), have earned at least 142 credits, and have fulfilled program requirements will be granted this qualification.

Programme Description

This qualification equips learners with the skills to guide extended tours across Namibia and transfrontier parks. It covers tourist communication, cultural awareness, customer care, safety, and knowledge of Namibia’s history, environment, and tourism industry. Learners may also specialize in areas like desert, marine, or adventure guiding. 

 

Qualification Requirements

 Students who have completed at least two unit standards from Elective Set A (8–11 credits) and at least two unit standards from Elective Set B (30 credits), have earned at least 142 credits, and have fulfilled program requirements will be granted this qualification. 

Who should apply?

  • Candidates who have successfully completed the National Vocational Certificate in Hospitality & Tourism (Apprentice Guide)- (Level 3) or the equivalent thereof. 
  • Candidates who have obtained a National Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSCO)/Grade 11 Certificate or the equivalent thereof.
  • Individuals already employed in the field of National Guide but without formal qualifications.
